Transfer to an electronic lab notebook is a challenge for many labs. Addressing the necessity for a change has become even more important during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Defining the lab’s requirements, evaluating ELN solutions, managing the lab team, and implementing the ELN in the lab are tough questions to deal with. During this webinar, we will discuss how to handle these burning questions when acquiring a solution for the lab.

Hi, how did you “score” the ease of use of an ELN? Especially since different people might have had different experiences and preferences?
This question was answered during the webinar, please watch the Q&A session at the end of the webinar recording. (Listen to the answer)
What about the 2023 NIH sharing plan? Are the ELNs in the 2023 NIH approved repositories or institutional repositories? Which ELNs?
Thank you for asking – here are a few resources focusing on this topic.
I am an undergraduate researcher and Chemical Engineering student at the University of Washington. From what was presented it seems like SciNote is bought as a package for an entire team. Is SciNote available for a single student to use independently?
Yes it is available for individual users as well, please see SciNote plans here.
How did you handle changing data entry from paper to an ELN? Did you manage to go completely paperless? If so, how? Or was there still some amount of paper in the process? Was there any resistance from users?
This question was answered during the webinar, please watch the Q&A session at the end of the webinar recording. (Listen to the answer)
Do you think that the ELN industry will start working together to define an XML format for data transfer between products?
This comment and question were answered during the webinar, please watch the Q&A session at the end of the webinar recording. (Listen to the answer)
How do you approach very large data, particularly on the cloud where it is not easy to link to local file storage?
In SciNote, you can add links and hyperlinks to your large data saved elsewhere if needed. If you would like to discuss the options more in detail, feel free to book a SciNote demo anytime.
What about the integration into other tools – ex. OMERO?
SciNote has a RESTful API that 3rd party applications such as LIMS systems, data management systems, CRM, ERP systems can use to access SciNote data. RESTful APIs nowadays are one of the key concepts behind software integrations, interfacing, and interoperability. Depending on the need, integrations via RESTful API can be uni- or bidirectional offering data flows from 3rd party applications into SciNote and/or from SciNote into 3rd party applications. For example, an external application integrated with SciNote can create a task, a protocol, a sample, update a sample in SciNote, or can receive data such as a result file from SciNote.
Thank you for organising this webinar. I missed the first 15 minutes of the webinar. Would it be possible to receive a recording and the documents shared by the presenters? Thank you.
Yes, the recording is available.
