This release is especially meaningful to us because it was shaped directly by our users. During the Early Access phase, diverse teams across research, biopharma, diagnostics, and clinical labs tested the beta version, shared feedback, and helped co-develop the feature. Their real-world use cases, insights, and suggestions were crucial in refining the user experience and making SciNote Forms valuable, flexible, and relevant.

While this marks the first official iteration of SciNote Forms, it’s only the beginning. We’re continuing to build and improve based on your input. While the current release includes all validated capabilities, we are continuing development and plan to expand its flexibility based on user needs and interest.

Why use SciNote Forms?

Despite advances in laboratory software, many teams still record critical data on paper forms, shared spreadsheets, and loosely maintained Word documents. This approach leads to inconsistency, loss of detail, and lack of traceability, which are particularly problematic in regulated, multi-team environments.

SciNote Forms directly addresses this issue by allowing users to build digital, reusable templates that enforce structure and completeness during data entry. Each form submission automatically includes metadata and audit history, ensuring high traceability and alignment with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), GxP guidelines, and similar regulatory frameworks.

By replacing manual documents with purpose-built tools for structured data capture, SciNote Forms helps maintain integrity throughout the scientific process; from early research experiments to routine production batch records.

What SciNote Forms Can Do Today

On release, SciNote Forms introduces core capabilities that bring structure, compliance, and traceability into your digital lab workflows:

Create reusable digital form templates with predefined fields

Build and reuse templates that include structured field types such as text, numeric

entries, date/time pickers, dropdown menus, and links to existing inventory items. This ena

bles labs to standardize how information is collected, no matter who is entering the data or when it’s being recorded.



Use forms within protocol steps to ensure documentation is tied to procedures

Forms are directly embedded in Protocol Steps, making it easy to associate specific data entries with the exact phase of an experiment or task. This integration strengthens traceability and aligns data collection with procedural execution

Set value ranges for numeric fields to prevent input errors

Input validation can be built into numeric fields using predefined range limits. This feature helps users avoid entry mistakes during data collection and supports quality standards by flagging out-of-spec values before they become problematic.

Generate automatic audit trails for every form submission

Each time a form is completed, SciNote automatically creates an audit log that records who completed the form, when it was done, and what values were entered. This is essential for compliance and internal quality control, ensuring that records are always complete, timestamped, and attributable.

Export completed form data along with metadata for further use

Completed forms can be exported for reporting, comparisons across runs, or external analysis. Exported files include full metadata, providing additional insight into when and how the data was recorded—adding value for quality assurance, troubleshooting, or regulatory submissions.

Applying SciNote Forms Across the Lab

SciNote Forms was designed with flexibility in mind to support a wide range of scientific and operational use cases. In clinical and pre-clinical studies, teams can ensure consistent and compliant data capture aligned with protocol expectations. In process development, the feature supports accurate recording of test steps, conditions, and results. Production environments benefit from standardized input for batch records and operator logs, while QA/QC teams use structured formats to improve traceability and simplify reviews.

Several Early Access participants have already used SciNote Forms to improve routine lab operations. During conjugation workflows, researchers used SOP-linked forms to record each procedural step in real time, maintaining full traceability from setup to final output.

In product qualification processes, lab teams created general-purpose forms to ensure consistent data capture during verification, validation, and QC testing. These forms linked directly with test protocols and provided clear structure for documenting key results, reducing variability and simplifying review.

Get Started with SciNote Forms

Paragraph text SciNote Forms is currently available within protocol steps on certain SciNote plans. All SciNote users without SciNote Forms enabled will be offered upgrade paths to access this functionality. Please talk with your Customer Success Manager or Account Manager about ways to access this feature.

To begin using SciNote Forms:

  1. Log in to your SciNote workspace and find the new Forms Feature in the left sidebar.
  2. Click “Create new form” to begin building your template.
  3. Create your new form, using any desired combination of text, numeric or other types of content blocks and publish it once it’s ready.
  4. Open the protocols tab, navigate to any protocol step and add a form from your list of templates.
  5. Begin structured data collection directly within your experimental workflow
  6. Export and review collected records with full traceability at any time
