Love organizing? Project folders will make data management in SciNote even easier!
3 min read
With this SciNote electronic lab notebook update we are happy to introduce folders for your Projects in SciNote!
And there is more: Project filters, improved navigation and most importantly, upgraded archiving with full-content access to your data in SciNote is here upon your request!
Table of content:
Project folders
You are now able to create folders and subfolders in the Projects section of SciNote and create or move Projects into them.
You can create a new folder by clicking on the “Create folder” button in the toolbar row, name the folder and click on the blue “Create folder” button. The new folder will appear in the Projects or inside the folder where you created it.
To move a Project or a folder, first select the objects that you want to move and click on the “Move” button that appears in the toolbar row upon selection.
Choose a destination folder and confirm the action with the blue “Move” button.
To keep SciNote structure uniformly organized and managed at the Team level, the creation of new folders is allowed only to Team administrators. Renaming of existing folders and moving of Projects and folders to other folders is restricted to Team administrators as well. They are also allowed to delete folders, but only if they are empty.
Improved Project cards
The Project cards now not only look nicer, but they also include some additional improvements:
- The members of the Project are directly exposed on the card by their avatars
- “Plus” button is added to manage the Project members
- Improved comments section: you are notified of the new comment on the Project by a red dot above the 3-dots context menu. Clicking on the “Show comments” button opens the comments panel on the right side of the screen, where you can view, add or edit comments.
Improved Project table view
Together with the updated Project cards, we’ve also improved the Project table view. You can switch to the table view by clicking on the “View” button and selecting “Table” in the flyout.
The Project table view displays the same information as Project cards and you are now able to add new Project members also from the table view.
Filters for projects
It is now even easier to find specific Projects in SciNote – we introduced new Project filters! Just click on the filter icon at the top right of the screen and set the filters to what you are looking for.
You can filter Projects by:
- Specific text input (this searches through Project names)
- Start date (you can choose a date range from the calendar)
- Specific Project members (you can select as many as you want and it will show you all the Projects that have any of those colleagues assigned).
Additionally, there is an option to search through all your folders as well, so you can make sure you don’t miss anything.
The red dot above the filter icon notifies you that the filters are applied. If you want to see all your Projects again, simply clear the applied filters by the “Clear” button at the top right of the Filters flyout.
Table view of your Experiments
Within each Project you can see a list of your Experiments. We now added a table view of your Experiments for all of you who prefer the condensed view better than the cards.
Updated layout of Experiment cards
Experiment cards are now smaller and have a neat look. They still display a task workflow in a thumbnail, so that you can easily recognize the Experiment you are looking for.
Additionally, we added the information of the number of completed Tasks vs. all Tasks in the Experiment together with the progress bar to visually show the progress on that Experiment.
Filters for Experiments
We added new filters for your Experiments to make it easier to find a specific Experiment within the current Project.
Similarly to the Projects page, just click on the filter icon at the top right of the screen and set the filters to what you are looking for.

Improved Archive
In SciNote, we want you to always easily find the data you need, even if it is already archived. That’s why we’ve greatly improved the Archive for you.
The biggest improvement is that you can now view the entire content of your archived Projects, Experiments and Tasks. You can simply navigate through them as on the active screens, only that you cannot edit the objects once they are archived. However, you can always restore the archived objects as before, if your Project role allows it.
To access the Archive you have two options:
- In the navigation panel click on the “Archived projects” at the bottom of your project list, or
- Click on the “View” button at the top right of the screen and choose “Go to Archived projects”.
We also made it possible for you to neatly organize your Archive. You can create folders for the archived Projects in the Archive, independently from the active ones.
