Why Technovation?

Technology has taken a few major leaps in the past few decades – from digital communication, mobile devices, to machine learning and artificial intelligence. It not only impacts our day-to-day lives, but also accelerates substantial progress in biotechnology and scientific discoveries. These advancements are driven by people who, at some point, were inspired to tackle challenges that others haven’t yet figured out.

SciNote started out as a group of people looking to technology to solve a problem encountered in research labs. As such, we hope to inspire the next wave of creative thinkers, innovators, problem solvers, and entrepreneurs. This aligns well with Technovation, which provides programs that empower girls worldwide to solve a problem in their community with technology. The empowerment of girls and young women benefits not only the girls but also their families, their community, and society as a whole.

About Technovation

Technovation is a global tech education nonprofit that empowers girls (ages 10-18 years old) to be STEM leaders, innovators, and changemakers. Technovation participants identify a real-world problem in their community and develop a tech-based solution [e.g., mobile app or AI prototype] with a team of girls and support from a volunteer mentor. The issues they address range from climate change, medical access at refugee camps, community hunger, and much more. The results are impressive: 76% pursue STEM degrees, 60% work in STEM careers, and 36% start their own companies. Over the past 17 years, Technovation has engaged ~370,000 participants across 120+ countries. Technovation partners with over 130 local chapters around the world to bring its accessible STEM curriculum to life.

Their 12-week curriculum not only teaches girls technical skills in coding and AI, but also how to apply those skills to solve a real-world problem, building the participants’ critical thinking, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial skills. After participating in Technovation Girls, girls are invited to participate in its alumnae community, where they are offered opportunities to build their skills, networks, and job prospects as they continue their education and start their careers.
