What were the main reasons you chose SciNote?
SciNote was selected for several reasons: easy handling, intuitive layout, immediate assistance (Europe time zone). I like the hierarchy through which experiments are organized and how results can be imported as pictures, Excel files or other formats. Importantly, project reports are generated in a pre-compiled format.
Can you tell us about you and your company’s work?
OneChain Immunotherapies S.L. (hereinafter OneChain) is a spin-off company of the Josep Carreras Leukemia Research Institute (IJC) and the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA) launched in June 2020 by Dr. Pablo Menéndez. The company aims to develop new therapeutic strategies in immuno-oncology, using chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T candidates or new allogeneic therapies, against different neoplasms, mainly rare diseases or with few therapeutic alternatives. OneChain’s current product portfolio ranges from pre-clinical to clinical development projects.
My role in the company is the Research Director, and my responsibilities within the company include: (i) lead the supervision and execution of the company’s scientific projects; (ii) design of new projects in coordination with the CSO; (iii) elaboration of scientific reports; (iv) analysis and interpretation of data and results; and (v) scientific representation of the company. I hold a PhD in Biochemistry and have more than 20 years in biomedical and oncological research. After completing my postdoctoral training, I joined the Universitat Pompeu Fabra as assistant professor of Biochemistry and principal investigator. Later on, I joined the International University of Catalonia and OneChain.

What was your process of selecting an ELN? What were the main reasons you chose SciNote?
For a long time, we wanted to improve our data collection capacity in the laboratory. That is why we tested different options available in the market (Lab Folder, LabGuru, SciNote, etc). SciNote was selected for several reasons: easy handling, intuitive layout, immediate assistance (Europe time zone). I like the hierarchy through which experiments are organized and how results can be imported as pictures, Excel files or other formats. Importantly, project reports are generated in a pre-compiled format. Different “packages” – from Essential, Validated, and Platinum – are available… and there is more margin to meet one’s needs.

What was the process of implementing SciNote in your company?
We started with two licenses, and now we have 5. From the very beginning, we were in close contact with our Customer Success Manager, Karin, that helped us a lot during all the process. Then, after we got some experience, we have been getting in touch occasionally (1-2 times per year) just to ask questions, issues, or feedback for us. Of course, we can always reach her directly, via premium support, or booking a call directly. So our experience with the SciNote team has been great.

What benefits did you see after you started using SciNote?
As a small company, we needed to start the basis of our experimental work, and therefore it has been very useful to have a collection of protocols and templates of experiments that now facilitate the execution of the experimental work for the whole team, especially for the new members.
It is a good platform to standardize the lab notebook so that all the members can follow the same registering system. In addition, it allows a better follow up of collaborative work by assigning tasks to each specific member and allowing feedback and interactions between members through the notes that can be added to tasks. Notably, it saves time when registering routine experiments thanks to the protocol templates.

What has your experience with the SciNote team been?
The contact with the SciNote team has been very useful since they have shown us how to implement our needs in the platform and resolve all our questions. Also, some of the features that we suggested at the beginning of our membership, have been implemented. So, it feels that the platform is continually improving and adapting to the customer’s needs.
